2022 Temperature Blanket

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me post about my temperature blanket. I get questions about it all the time, so I thought I’d talk to you a bit about what exactly it is and how I’m making mine.

A temperature blanket is exactly that – a blanket that correlates to the temperature of a certain year. I’m making my blanket according to 2022 temps, so I crochet one row a day based on the high temperature. Some people choose to go back to a certain year that was important to them – the year they got married, had a kid, moved, etc. The great thing about this project is that it’s so customizable.

To start, I thought about the color scheme of my blanket. I wanted something colorful, so I went all out with a full ROYGBIV color scheme. Then, based on the usual temperatures in my region, I created a temperature chart to make sure I could fit in all of my colors. There’s really no set colors for a temperature blanket. Some people choose different shades of one color, all pastels or bright colors, or a color scheme that matches their home decor.

Next, I had to choose the pattern and stitch that I would use. Since this blanket will end up with 365 rows, I knew I needed something small so that I didn’t wind up with a giant blanket! But honestly, can a blanket ever be too big?? I went with a single crochet stitch with a chain space between. This simple stitch creates such a pretty pattern, and it works up quickly!

I love a mix of colors, so I don’t mind that these colors clash sometimes because of the crazy weather I get in my area. I’ve found a few favorite color combos this way! My favorite rows so far have been the ones at the end of April going into May. I love the orange, yellows, and pink mixing with the greens. I think it’s a cute combo going into springtime!

I update my Instagram friends every time I complete a month, but my next post here will be for my 6 month progress. After that, I’ll post the final result at the beginning of 2023! I can’t wait to finish this blanket and see what the final result is!

Thanks for stopping by,

Erin
